The trick is, where are the fish likely to frequent during the different times of the year. Here is some thought provoking ideas to consider when choosing the “sweet spot” when fishing in the spring.

Everyone knows the spring season is the season that trout spawn in the various streams that lead and feed into Big Bear Lake.  So, with that said, it would be a natural to stay near shallower water.  Fishing in the streams is prohibited for that very reason.  Once Memorial Day weekend has passed you’re fine. Large fines are imposed prior to that, so, definitely keep your lines and reels out of the streams and into Big Bear Lake. Try fishing the waters just off the shoreline if you find one of these areas. One such area is the inner waters of Boulder Bay.

The North Shore has some of the best shore fishing spots around the lake. Start at the dam going up to the West Boat Ramp. Highway 38 has several places. All you need to do is find an inviting spot, pull over, park, and fish right next to your car.

Early spring is also great to fish the North Shores, Juniper Point, Also, near the East Boat Ramp. You do have a parking area for your car and a brief walk to the shoreline from there. Depending upon the area, some require and “Adventure Pass’ be displayed on your car in order to park there. Check with the Ranger Station on North Shore Drive.

There is a spot known at the “Trout Triangle” on the west side of the lake. This triangle are the waters along the south shoreline from Gilner Point west of the dam, from the dam, east along the North Shore to Windy Point, and then back across the lake to the South Shore. The Trout Triangle is known to be the most The most fruitful fishing spots on Big Bear Lake.To make the most of the triangle the best way to fish it is from a boat in order to change your position if one spot is not producing.  So, next spring give this idea a try and see how your fish catching improves.
