The area enjoys moderate summers and is a playground for winter sports. High altitude training enthusiasts come to Big Bear for running, biking, hiking, rock climbing and the beautiful blue skies.
Our mountain top is just two hours from the metropolitan Los Angeles area and three hours north of San Diego (yes, Disneyland is downhill from here!).
|Thanksgiving & Christmas In Big Bear|
We have it all, in the midst of towering pines and crystal blue skies lies the largest fresh water lake in Southern California. With a total of 23 miles of shoreline. Big Bear Lake is routinely stocked with an assortment of fresh water fish: rainbow trout, bass, crappie, bluegill, and catfish. There have been an assortment of record-setting trout catches over the years.
Big Bear is also rated No.1 in Southern California for the best skiing and snowboarding terrain around! Big Bear Lake is the home of two world class ski and snowboard slopes, Snow Summit and Bear Mtn. ski resorts, each boasting state of the art snow making machines that ensure the area is ski friendly well into the Spring. The modern ski industry was born here. Snow Summit pioneered the modern art of snow making. Bear Mtn. offers snowboarders of all abilities to come and enjoy. Due to its high elevation, Big Bear Lake receives a substantial amount of snowfall during the winter months. It's not uncommon for the snow depths to reach 2 feet or more in the area. There are also various commercial Snow Play areas offering groomed hills for inner tubing.
Enjoy moderate temperatures in both the summer and winter. The summer temperatures barely reach the eighties. Although Big Bear can experience the full brunt of winter, most days reach the forties. You can count on a 30 to 40 degree swing in temperatures between day time hours and nightly lows, any time of year – don’t be surprised if you want to burn the fireplace in August during the evenings.
The Big Bear area is divided into several locations; Big Bear Lake, Big Bear City, Fawnskin and the East Valley. Since this mountain top valley is not very large, most cabins are within 20 minutes of the resorts or the lake.
