Big Bear Ski Resorts

Snow Summit Ski Resort and Bear Mountain Ski Resort

There are two awesome ski resorts right in the heart of Big Bear Lake in the mountains of San Bernardino.  A small town with a Bavarian flair, Big Bear is situated only two hours from Los Angeles or Palm Springs and approximately 3 hours from Las Vegas, Nevada.  Snow Summit and Bear Mountain Ski Resorts are the best place to go in the winter for skiing and snowboarding for Southern Californians.

Since construction began in 1952, Big Bear has always been at the forefront when it comes to winter activities for ski enthusiasts.  In the fall of 1964, The Snow Summit Ski Resort was the first ski resort to make man made snow. The Big Bear resort communities is one of the very few that has snow making capabilities that are not dependant upon natural snow making it the perfect recipe to ensure a successful ski season with plenty of fresh powder well into the Spring.  Big Bear has an unlimited supply of water that is siphoned from the lake to make as much snow as needed, at the time of the ice melt the water returns back to the lake. Things couldn’t be better than that! To advance snowmaking capabilities Bear Mountain Resorts have heavily invested more than a whopping $12 million just in the past few seasons. This investment allows for the production of more reliable snow conditions and snow quality everyday of the ski and snowboarding season!

Both resorts will have more than enough space to keep you hoping, can you believe that between the two there is a combined total of over 435 skiable acres. Offering 26 lifts and 80 total runs to choose from, you better get started early you’ll never be able to cover that much ground no matter how much time to have.

Both ski resorts are owned by the same company which makes it great when purchasing your ski tickets. They can be used at either resort. There’s also a shuttle bus that will pick guests up at the front and makes that run between the resorts for convenience every few minutes.

Each resort offers it own unique skiing/snowboarding experiences.

Snow Summit is known to be preferred by most families. Although there are advanced runs most beginners and intermediate skiers are most comfortable here. If you didn’t get enough skiing during the day light hours, Snow Summit Resort does offer night skiing. This is an experience within itself.

Bear Mountain Ski Resort is located at the base of Goldmine Drive in Moonridge. Bear Mountain also offers a large learning area for beginners but it is also considered to be the most progressive ski area in the country.  With 150 diverse sized jumps and 80 jibs within the ski park, Bear also is proud to offer the only super pipe in Southern California. If that isn’t enough for you Bear also has the highest and steepest runs in Southern California topping out at 9500 ft.
