Farewell Festivities at this Years Oktoberfest in Big Bear

The end of the Oktoberfest celebration is no less fun than the beginning. In fact, it is even more fun! Every year, the last day of Oktoberfest falls on the closest Saturday to Halloween. As has been advertised for years, "Come Join the Spooktacular"! This is the final day and night of one of Big Bear's longest running traditions. What better way to close out the year than with a full-fledged Halloween Party stuffed into a full-fledged Oktoberfest Party!

If you haven't planned it yet, pool your resources and book your lodging. You can reserve right now for your Big Bear lodging and the final day of Oktoberfest. You and your best friends can share a cabin and wake up in the mountains in the morning! Do not wait, as the weekend comes fast. You can be in Big Bear in a few hours knowing all you have to do is pick up a key and maybe a couple of bundles of firewood. On your way home from work on Friday, fill the car with your favorite gas, clean the windshield and load up with all the costumes and gear you can fit. Keep room for all your friends and family. Head to the San Bernardinos. 3 roads lead to Big Bear. How easy is that?

Here is the simple fact. The last day of Big Bear's longest running party starts at 12 noon and closes at midnight. This is your last chance to sit down to a hot, tasty German meal. This is your last chance to raise your stein and toast the good people you are with. Last chance to dance the Chicken Dance. You've been staring at last year's party beads hanging by the mirror again, haven't you? If you haven't worn those beads and chicken hat yet, get into the spirit and join the spooks!

On this last Saturday, admission is free for all children who come in costume. A participant's prize will be awarded to all children joining the costume contest at 3:00pm. Prizes for the top 3 children's costumes will also be presented. Don't miss this! This is a wonderful chance for children of all ages to join in the spirit of Halloween. Everyone has a lot of fun during the children's contest. More than a lineup, all the contestants get to parade around the dance floor and show off their transformations to the whole crowd. Audience participation is highly encouraged and readily given. There are some very clever costumes!

Later in the evening, at 9:00pm, there is an adult contest for best costume. You MUST be in the beer hall for the adult costume contest. The party is in full swing by then and the whole scene gets VERY entertaining! Laughter is the key here, and there is always plenty of it. Audience participation is as entertaining as the contest! We have seen many characters show up for the closing ceremonies. Many "Vikings"

like to attend, some bringing their Meade horns instead of steins.

Trolls, dwarves, elves, and a few other fantasy beings seem to come out of Big Bear's "Black Forest" pines. Be forewarned, it appears the macabre and several varieties of "undead" could be high on the guest list this year. So far, all of the spooks have gotten along marvelously.
